Altitude was founded in 2014 by Craig Semple. After years working in Edinburgh roofing, Craig had seen the same problem on every job: contractors hiring scaffold and access equipment, then passing the cost — plus the wait — to the homeowner.
He started Altitude with one principle: own the equipment. The cherry picker and rope access gear sit in our yard, ready to go. That single decision changes everything downstream — quotes are £400–£800 lower than scaffold-based competitors, jobs start within 1–2 weeks instead of 3–4, and we control the schedule because no third party does.
Ten years on, we're a five-person Edinburgh team that has completed over 500 jobs across the city — Victorian tenements in Marchmont, Georgian townhouses in the New Town, post-war semis in Corstorphine, harbourside flats in Leith, conservation-area listed buildings in Stockbridge. We've worked with most of Edinburgh's factors and conservation officers. We've seen most of what Edinburgh roofs throw at us. And we've kept the same principle: own equipment, own team, honest quoting.

We own our access equipment instead of hiring it in. That saves you £400–£800 on a typical residential job and removes the 2–3 week wait that scaffold-based contractors need. For genuinely hard-to-reach jobs we have IRATA-trained rope access too.
Every quote is fully itemised — materials, labour, access, waste disposal, VAT — with no hidden extras. Quotes are valid 30 days. We don't chase you for a decision. If we discover something during the work that wasn't visible at survey, we agree it with you before proceeding.
Edinburgh has 50+ conservation areas and we work in most of them. We know which jobs need listed building consent, which need conservation officer sign-off, and which can proceed under permitted development. We use lime mortar where it's specified, copper or stainless fixings as standard, and reclaimed materials when matching original fabric.
